Moreno, Ruben - Complique [CD]

Complique is French for 'complicated'. But here, Houstonian Ruben Moreno's second set is straightforward and adept at combining a rhythmic zydeco beat with a soulful vocal delivery, maybe best demonstrated on "Intoxicating". Around music since he could barely walk, Moreno under-studied with the likes of C.J. Chenier and Leroy Thomas as a teenager. Now only 25 years-old, he's taken his own show on the road.
